Your school reports, not you
For KREC-approved courses, the education provider submits your CE credit directly to the Commission. You don't upload certificates or enter courses yourself. KREC says to save your completion certificates for your records and send them only if the Commission asks.
This is the opposite of some states — in Arizona, for example, licensees enter every course into the state portal themselves.
The five-day rule
Schools must report within five calendar days of completion, or by your license expiration date, whichever is sooner. Finish a course three days before you expire and the school must report it before your expiration, not five days later.
Steady Education reports Kansas completions within 3–5 calendar days.
Make sure the credit lands on your record
KREC matches credit to you by name and license number, so a mismatch can delay it:
- Register for courses using the same name that's on file with KREC.
- Use your 8-digit KREC license number.
- Not sure what's on file? Look yourself up on KREC License Search — no login needed.
How to check your hours
Search for your record on License Search, select your license, then open the Continuing Education tab. It shows the current renewal cycle only; hours from past renewals aren't displayed. You can also see your CE by logging in to the KREC Public Portal.
If your hours don't show up
- Give it five days. That's the school's reporting window.
- Still missing? Contact the school first. KREC's guidance is to reach out to your education provider if credit hasn't appeared after five days.
- Past the window entirely? KREC says you can email your certificates to the Commission.
You don't have to wait for your hours to appear before renewing. You can submit your online renewal, and KREC's system completes it once the CE is on file — but see renewal-day timing before you take any more courses.
