How KREC sets your expiration date
Since January 1, 2019, a new Kansas license expires on the first day of the month, two years after the date it was issued. A license issued March 14, 2025, for example, expires March 1, 2027.
Licenses issued before 2019 were moved onto the same first-of-the-month pattern: their expiration date became the first day of the month following the previous expiration date.
After that, the date stays put. KREC says it only changes if your license type changes (for example, salesperson to broker) or the license lapses and you have to apply for a new one. A last-name change no longer affects it.
Where to look it up
- KREC License Search — search your name at licensing.ks.gov/verification. No login needed.
- Your pocket card — the expiration date is printed on it.
- The KREC Public Portal — log in to see your record, including CE already on file for the current cycle.
KREC also emails a courtesy renewal reminder 45 days before your expiration date. If you never get one, your email address on file is probably out of date — update it in the Public Portal.
Your renewal is due on that date
Your renewal application, fee ($125 salesperson, $175 broker) and all 12 CE hours must be complete by your expiration date. You can take CE any time during your two-year cycle; there is no need to wait until the end.
A timeline that works
- 60 days out: check your record for hours already on file, and start the Kansas Required Core.
- 14 days out: finish your last course. Your school has up to five calendar days to report it to KREC.
- 7 days out: KREC's own recommendation for having CE complete, to avoid processing delays and late fees.
- Before expiration: submit your renewal in the Public Portal and pay the fee. KREC emails a confirmation and updated pocket card within 48 hours.
