The easy case: dual-credit courses
If you take a dual-credit course through a Kansas-approved provider, it counts for Kansas like any other approved course, and the provider reports it. Check KREC's Directory of Approved CE Providers and Courses before you enroll.
If a course is in the directory, don't file a request for it — KREC says to ask the provider to issue your Kansas completion certificate instead.
Everything else: the Individual Request for CE
For a real estate course that isn't KREC-approved, or wasn't taken through an approved provider, you can ask KREC to review it. If approved, you can receive credit for up to nine elective hours. The course must meet all of these:
- Completed after your Kansas license was issued.
- Completed within your current Kansas renewal period.
- Submitted with the Individual CE Request Form, the fee, and all required documentation, through the KREC Public Portal.
The deadline: 15 days before expiration
KREC must receive the request 15 days before your license expiration date. Leave it later and it won't be reviewed in time for this renewal.
What to include
- A course outline.
- A course completion certificate signed by the course sponsor or instructor.
- Online, self-paced courses: proof you scored 90% or better on the exam or quiz questions.
- Live webinars: the school's policy requiring students to be present and on camera for the entire course.
What it can't do
- It never replaces the Kansas Required Core. You must still take the 3-hour Kansas Required Core from an approved provider.
- No credit for property management courses.
- A denial doesn't extend your deadline. If the request is denied, you must complete another course before your license expires.
Because of the nine-hour cap, the most you can bring in this way is the full elective portion — the Required Core always has to be a Kansas course.
