Same hours as a salesperson
Kansas brokers renew on the same CE requirement as salespersons: 12 hours to renew to active status, including the 3-hour Kansas Required Core. The appraisal-course limit (one 3-hour appraisal-type course per renewal period) and the 90% passing score for self-paced online courses apply the same way.
The difference is the fee: a broker renewal is $175 for two years, versus $125 for a salesperson.
The rule that catches new brokers
KREC's continuing education page is direct about it: CE taken as a salesperson prior to the issuance of your Kansas broker's license will not count.
So hours you complete while you're still a salesperson — even in the months right before your broker license comes through — don't carry over to your new broker license.
Your expiration date can change too

Planning the switch
- Close out your salesperson cycle on its own terms. If your salesperson renewal falls due before the broker license is issued, you still need that cycle's 12 hours.
- Hold off on "next cycle" CE until your broker license is issued — it won't count toward the broker license.
- Once issued, confirm the new date and plan your 12 hours against it.
Supervising and branch brokers
If you'll supervise a company or branch, your renewal affects everyone affiliated with you. If a supervising or branch broker doesn't renew on time or goes inactive, another broker must take over (form REC-450), or the affiliated licensees must move or go inactive and the company must close (form REC-440).
